The Thinkware M1 Motorsports Cam is the latest innovation from Thinkware and it certainly stands out from the crowd.
The high-quality front and rear cameras are designed for use with motorbikes, ATVs, UTVs, and anything else that would test the limits of a traditional dash cam.
Along with the integral features and HD recording you’d expect from a top-of-the-range camera, the M1 Motorsports Cam has a host of additional features that make it a clear winner for anybody wanting the best camera for their motorsport activities.
The Thinkware M1 Motorsports Cam boasts 1080p Full HD recording at 30 frames per second (FPS) with a 2.1MP CMOS sensor on both the front and rear cameras.
This ensures that all footage is of high quality with enough detail to provide reliable evidence in all circumstances. The cameras use a 140-degree wide-angle lens which minimises blind spots and captures the whole story in road incidents.
Videos recorded in dark areas or during the night are often not clearly identifiable. The Thinkware M1 Super Night Vision 2.0 uses Image Signal Processing (ISP) technology to record a clear, visible video in all lighting – shown in the image below.
Alternatively, when driving under bright sunlight, the WDR function eliminates excessively bright spots on the recording to correct the colour balance and ensure a clear image.
There are several areas of the design in the Thinkware M1 which allow it to stand out as the best in its class.
Gyro Sensor – The Thinkware M1 Motorsports Cam uses a built-in gyro sensor for electronic image stabilisation. This helps to eliminate bumps in the footage in order to provide a smoother overall recording.
The difference this makes is unquestionable – originally bumpy recordings become almost cinematic, leading to much more reliable evidence if needed, and impressive memories to look back on.
The rougher the terrain, the more noticeable the difference will be.
Weatherproofing – The M1 is P66 rated weatherproof and is therefore completely protected from dust and high-pressure water jets from any direction.
Rain, snow, dust, sand, and everything between are no problem for this motorsports camera.
Format Free Technology – The Thinkware M1 uses proprietary Format Free Technology to eliminate the need for manual formatting of recording video files on the Micro SD Card.
This improves the usability greatly and takes away the hassle of manually clearing memory space, while also extending the life of your memory card.
The Thinkware M1 Motorsports cam is clearly built for an incredible user experience.
The M1s remote control easily sits by a motorbike’s handlebar, and is incredibly ergonomic, providing practical control over the camera at any moment during your journey.
The status LED light is clearly displayed on the control. This allows you to be sure that the camera is actively recording while you drive, meaning you don’t need to manually check that recording began when the engine was started.
Opposite to the status LED is the microphone. This can be used to pick up the drivers voice or can be deactivated through the Thinkware mobile app or desktop software.
The main section of the control panel is split into two halves. The first button gives you control over the cameras built-in WiFi – the benefits of which are discussed in the next section.
The second button is for activating manual recording.
The manual recording feature will save the footage recorded before, during, and after the button is pressed. Recordings saved in this way will not be overwritten when the memory of the camera becomes full, so there is no fear of losing this important footage.
This is useful for saving recordings of dangerous driving or road rage incidents, as these will not trigger the event recording to be automatically saved due to them not causing impact to your own vehicle.
Built-In WiFi & GPS
Built-in WiFi & GPS are key features for all high-quality camera systems.
The built-in WiFi allows a smartphone to connect to the camera through the downloadable app (Android/iOS) in order to remotely view or download any important footage, without having to remove the SD card and put it into a desktop.
From the Thinkware Mobile App, you can also directly alter the camera settings, update the firmware, or view the live camera feed. This is great for usability and on-the-go efficiency.
The built-in GPS antenna allows your bike’s location and routes to be plotted on a map, along with the vehicle speed, and direction of travel. This can be crucial data when using your footage as evidence for an insurance claim.
